I am told that BBC Radio 4 show, You and Yours, recently featured an interesting item about self-publishing. The main interviewee was an established thriller writer with several paperbacks to his credit. He decided to try Kindle and has done very well. One thing he stressed was that you have to have your own website, your own blog and make maximum use of Facebook. He reckons he now spends half of his working life writing stories and the other half promoting them on the web. He has a theory that his Kindle clientele are a different market from conventional book buyers. He aims for a max of 40,000 words for his Kindle stories – a “novella”, he says. Digital and hardcopy formats

There are many options open to us as we move forward with this project. Hell’s Door Opens will be available in both digital and hardcopy formats. Kindle Direct Publishing is an obvious choice for one digital format. We’re also considering a watermarked pdf release via Drive Thru Fiction. For hardcopy, there are many options and we may decide to release through more than one of them. Leading contenders includeCreatespace, Lulu and the Now in Print line from RPGnow. As the project develops we can keep you informed of our experiences with these companies. With luck, any hurdles we encounter will enable you to avoid similar obstacles. Welcome to the blog

This is the first blog on the site. The plan is to share findings and experiences with you as we go through the process of self-publishing a book for the first time. We’d love to hear your feedback, thoughts and advice on all matters of publishing in the fantasy genre. It should be a fun and honest ride that we’ll share and hopefully we’ll get some interest in the book too. After all that is the reason we are here in the first place.
